Sony Mobile is rolling out new firmware updates for the Xperia XZ, Xperia X Performance, Xperia X and Xperia X Compact which includes the 1 March 2017 Google security patches. Software build number 39.2.A.0.442 is rolling out to the Xperia XZ and X Performance, whilst version number 34.2.A.0.333 is rolling to the Xperia X and Xperia X Compact. We haven’t noticed any other changes, but please feel free to let us know of any other improvements in the comments below. All FTF firmware links are included below.

Sony Mobile has released the Android 7.1.1 Nougat firmware update for the Xperia XZ and Xperia X Performance handsets through build number 41.2.A.2.199.

The update includes a number of native Android 7.1 features including app shortcuts (with a compatible launcher – the Xperia Home launcher does not support app shortcuts at present). The Android security patch has also been updated to 1 April 2017.

Sony Mobile has released a new firmware update for a number Xperia X series models, which adds the 1 May 2017 Android security patch. The Xperia XZ and Xperia X Performance have seen their build numbers move from 41.2.A.2.199 to version 41.2.A.2.223 in this new software.

While, at the same time, the Xperia X and Xperia X Compact have seen their build numbers move from 34.2.A.2.47 to version 34.2.A.2.69. The Xperia X and X Compact remain on Android 7.0 for now. No other changes have been noted so far. We will include FTF firmware links for all variants in due course.

Sony Mobile has released a new firmware update for the Xperia XZ and X Performance, which updates the build number to version 41.2.A.7.8. The main change with this newest update is the introduction of the 1 June 2017 Android security patch (all details regarding the vulnerabilities fixed can be found here). No other changes have been noted so far. We will include FTF firmware files for all variants shortly.

Sony Mobile has begun to seed an update for the Xperia X Performance and Xperia XZ that moves the build number from 41.2.A.7.8 to version 41.2.A.7.35. The new update primarily updates the Android security patch to 1 July 2017 (from 1 June previously).

At the time of writing only a few regions (at most) have received the update for each variant, but expect a wider rollout in the coming days. Do let us know if you have updated, and noticed any other changes, in the comments below.

Update: This same firmware build is also rolling to the Xperia XZs and XZs Dual.

Sony is currently rolling new firmware updates for a number of Xperia X series handsets, updating to the latest 1 August 2017 Android security patch. The Xperia XZ and X Performance has seen their firmware builds move from 41.2.A.7.35 to version 41.2.A.7.53. The Xperia XZs is also likely to see the same build released shortly.

The Xperia X has seen its firmware build move from 34.3.A.0.206 to version 34.3.A.0.217. The Xperia X Compact should also follow suit shortly, although the update is not live at the time of writing. We are not aware of any other changes in these updates, but if you’ve noticed anything new, let us know in the comments below.

Sony Mobile has confirmed which of its Xperia range will be receiving the Android 8.0 Oreo update. Sony has confirmed that all of the 2017 Xperia X series of phones will receive the update (sorry L1 owners), along with the Xperia X, X Performance, X Compact and XZ of last year.

The Xperia XZ1 and XZ1 Compact will ship with Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box, while the Xperia XA1 Plus is also in line to receive the update. Sony has not confirmed any dates at this stage, but as soon as we hear anything further we’ll let you know.

Sony Mobile has begun to seed a new firmware update for the Xperia XZ, X Performance that moves the build number from 41.2.A.7.53 to 41.2.A.7.65. This latest update moves the Android security patches to 1 September 2017. The update is rolling to a few select regions right now, but expect availability to widen in the coming days, as well as including the Xperia XZs. Hot on the heels of the earlier update for Xperia X/X Compact owners which included the 1 October 2017 Android security patches, similar firmware is now rolling for Xperia XZ, XZs and X Performance owners. The new update moves the build number from 41.2.A.7.65 to version 41.2.A.7.76. Given the small change in build number, we don’t expect any other tangible improvements, but do let us know if we’ve missed anything in the comments below.

Android 8.0.0 Oreo started to roll to the Xperia XZ and XZs at the end of last week through build number 41.3.A.0.401. The Xperia X Performance runs the same strand of firmware, and it started to receive the same update earlier today. The update is live on both the single SIM (F8131) and dual SIM (F8132) versions of the Xperia X Performance. Sony Mobile has started to roll a new firmware update for the Xperia XZ, Xperia XZs and Xperia X Performance, which moves the build number from 41.3.A.0.401 to version 41.3.A.2.24. The latest update adds the 1 December 2017 Android security patch. We have heard of a number of complaints about the Oreo update on the Xperia XZ, particularly around performance and battery life. Sony Mobile has begun to roll out the 1 January 2018 Android security patch to the Xperia XZ, XZs and X Performance series of handsets. This sees the models move from build number 41.3.A.2.24 to version 41.3.A.2.58. If you have updated, please let us know your impressions in the comments below.

It is not clear whether this update provides a full fix for the Spectre and Meltdown CPU vulnerabilities, as Sony’s initial statement on the issue was that this would only be covered those that were patched from “5 January 2018 or later”. We did see Sony’s Xperia XA1 series patched with 5 January security updates recently.

Sony Mobile has updated the firmware for the Xperia XZ, XZs and X Performance, bringing the 1 April 2018 Android security patch for the handset through build number 41.3.A.2.107 (from 41.3.A.2.99 previously). It’s great to see Sony updating these handsets so quickly, particularly with Easter in between. No other tangible changes have been noticed, but if you’ve noticed any differences let us know in the comments below.

Sony has moved the build number from 41.3.A.2.107 to version 41.3.A.2.128, and the Android version remains at 8.0.0. The next in Sony’s roster of Xperia smartphones to be updated to the latest 1 June 2018 Android security patches are the Xperia XZ, Xperia XZs and Xperia X Performance. This follows on from a similar for the Xperia XZ1 and XZ2 families in the last few days.

The new update moves the build number from 41.3.A.2.128 to version 41.3.A.2.149, and keeps the phone on Android 8.0.0 Oreo. If you have updated, please let us know what changes you’ve noticed.

Sony Mobile is rolling out a new firmware update for the Xperia X and XZ series that updates the phones with July 2018 Android security patches. The Xperia X and X Compact sees their build number from 34.4.A.2.85 to version 34.4.A.2.97.

The Xperia XZ and XZs have seen their build numbers move from 41.3.A.2.149 to version 41.3.A.2.157. The Xperia X Performance is expected to move to the same build numbers as the XZ series, but has not been updated at the time of writing.
